lyrics

Red flags fly at half mast, flying high by noosed rope
What is the color of hope?
Red flags fly at half mast, flown by a ghost of a ghost
What is the color of hope?
Red flags fly at full mast, in my mind and in my home
What is the color of hope?
Red flags fly at full mast, no change of wind, when I needed it most
What is the color of hope?

Seeds of doubt in fertile soil, seeds of change planted in sand.

Pink elephants parade red flags in flames, ashes and smoke
I need help more than hope.
Pink elephants and flags begin to fade, as I choke:
“I need help more than hope.”

Seeds of doubt in fertile soil, seeds of change planted in sand.

As the smoke clears I see a minefield of bare flag poles and eggshells.
The smoke matches the gray clouds over buildings with tongueless bells.
Silent they stand as a lifeless skyline that does not care I exist.
I recognize a single white flag as it blows in the wind.

It is not yours, it is not mine, but it is ours. Or it was.

No change of wind, no change of mind.

Red flags fly, although winds change, white flags fly, they burn the same.

Red flags fly in past tense, white flags fly in past tense.
You and I are not our own.
Red flags fly in past tense, white flags fly in past tense.
You are the color of hope.
